The story of Umeå Small Band began in the late 70's when the members Niklas Munter (bass, vocals), Steffe (guitar), Lars Eklund (guitar, vocals), Claes Björnberg (organ), Matte (drums) formed the band RIKETS AFFÄRER, they released a single entitled "Berlin / Mitt Enda Liv" in 1979 who had a mix of powerpop and symphonic/progressive rock influences in the vein of bands like KAIPA, MIKLAGÅRD, RÅG I RYGGEN and TRETTIOÅRIGA KRIGET. The band split-up in 1980 and the beginning of UMEÅ SMALL BAND would later take form.

This is the first single from Umeå Small Band, not as heavy as their earlier 2 songs "Kronofogden" & "Det finns ingen hjälp att få" who was presented on the '6 x 2' compilation!.

This single was recorded in Studio Tonteknink and produced by Pelle Henricsson / USB with line-up: Niklas Munter - Vocals / Bass, Lars Eklund - Guitars / Vocals & Claes Björnberg - Drums / Piano

In the song "Utanför" the lyrics are about the man going to work and has nothing else to do, unseen for the world around. The point in this song is that people should take care of those who has difficulty to be recognised by others, at work or in the daily life. "Nu vill jag va'" are just about a man who want to be in the same bed as some girl instead of working at the factory.

USB also released a second single in 1983 entitled "På Väg / Älvornas Bal" under the shortened name SMALL BAND.
